This is REAL LIFE!

About Real Life
This after school program is funded by a federal grant and is designed to serve inner-city youth. The goal is to help our teenagers graduate from high school with the skills needed for success in college and/or careers.

Program Overview

Students participate in twelve (12) hours of programming a week. Four (4) hours are academic or homework help, three (3) hours are dedicated to career exploration, and five (5) recreational, health, and social/emotional. Parent and student enrichment programs are offered each month. If a student is unable to make up the 12 hours after a number of weeks they will be asked to leave the program and lose their Teen Center scholarship.

Each lesson is guided by an essential question which promotes inquiry and analysis leading to understanding and mastery of a subject. Essential questions should not yield a simple straightforward answer but rather produce rich, thoughtful responses. Each 50 minute lesson begins with a business expert who uses the essential question to frame his/her introductory remarks. All lessons are co-taught by a teacher who will provide the business expert with a scripted lesson plan prior to the presentation.
